Type-A
This is the classic USB we’ve all seen — the flat, rectangular plug that only fits one way. You’ll find it on most computer ports for connecting keyboards, mice, flash drives, and even on TVs, consoles, and older phones or tablets.
Type-B
A chunkier, almost square connector. It’s not common in mobile devices, but you’ll still find it on printers and some other computer peripherals.
Mini-USB
Once the go-to connector for mobile devices, but now outdated. These days, you’re most likely to see it on older Bluetooth speakers or gadgets from the mid-2000s.
Micro-USB
The “slim cousin” of mini-USB. For years it was the standard for phones, tablets, power banks, and game controllers. While still around, it’s quickly being replaced by USB-C.
Type-C
The new universal standard — slim, reversible, and powerful. USB-C supports faster charging, higher data transfer speeds, and can handle multiple functions at once. It’s now common on modern smartphones, laptops, and even game consoles.
Lightning
Apple’s own connector, designed for iPhones, AirPods, and some iPads. It’s not a USB standard, but it’s been Apple’s signature since 2012. However, newer iPads and iPhones are now switching to USB-C.
